BIOSECURITY ACCREDITATION   /   SERVICES       BREAKING NEWS   SALTA PROPERTIES – MORE FREIGHT ON TRAINS IN MELBOURNE’S SOUTHEAST – The Victorian and Commonwealth Governments are making rail freight cheaper for businesses and taking trucks off suburban roads, thanks to a $28 million investment in direct rail freight between the Port of Melbourne and Dandenong South. A new track connecting the main rail line with Dandenong South-based Salta Properties freight hub will bust congestion in Melbourne’s growing south east region – refer HERE   THE WEEK IN REVIEW   FEATURE ARTICLE – WINTER 2020 ACROSS BORDERS
Future-proofing South Australia’s port and freight infrastructure
We were privileged to receive a commentary from STEWART LAMMIN, Chief Executive Officer, Flinders Port Holdings in our Winter 2020 edition of Across Borders.   At the start of 2020 Flinders Port Holdings and the state of South Australia were gearing up for a crucial year in infrastructure planning and development. The State’s infrastructure body, Infrastructure SA, were due to publish South Australia’s first state-wide 20-year infrastructure strategy, while we at Flinders Port Holdings would be completing the company’s 50-year masterplan. But quickly, priorities changed. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced businesses and governments alike to pause long-term planning and instead focus on the now.     EMPTY CONTAINER PARKS – NEED FOR SERIOUS REFORM – Operational conditions are at breaking point in NSW with a surplus of imports over exports in recent months leading to Empty Container Park (ECP) congestion.Escalation of shipping line managed re-directions is causing chaos for transport operators with costs generally being passed through the supply chain. Rubbing salt into the wounds, we are experiencing the avoidance of relief from shipping lines on container detention dehire fees (despite the fact that many shipping lines have not evacuated empty containers to ease congestion) and multiple ECPs (nationally) taking the ‘soft’ option of rapidly, and in quick succession, increasing container dehire booking fees – refer HERE     FREE WEBINAR TOMORROW – DEMYSTIFYING DUMPING – A GUIDE FOR AUSTRALIAN EXPORTERS

The Victorian government needs a paradigm shift in priorities in favour of exporters, importers and logistics providers to facilitate the efficient movement of goods to lead our economic recovery and generate wealth into the future.
