FTA / APSA MEMBERSHIP COST & BENEFIT 2020 / 2021 FTA / APSA ADVOCACY PLAN 2020 / 2021 SPONSOR OF THE WEEK THE NEW NORMAL – unfamiliar times indeed, requiring a community approach to ensure supply chains and trade lanes keep open. Thank you to Beau Paine (Regional Vice President Cargo – Australia at Menzies Aviation) for his contribution in the Winter 2020 edition of Across Borders – refer HERE THE WEEK IN REVIEW INFRASTRUCTURE SURCHARGES – What an absolute disgrace this is. Trade volume is down and stevedores are doing it tough … unlike so many in our industry or broader Australian commerce, stevedores have an easy fix by doubling their fees with an email to transport operators that have no choice but to pay or are denied access to deliver or receive containers. Perhaps the fact that Hutchison increased their fees from $50 to $94.78 (effective 27 July 2020) without any level of consultation will do us a favour by exposing the unfair nature of this pricing regime. We will continue to keep members in the loop on our advocacy activity. CYBER THREATS – thank you once again to Jonathan (Jono) Sharrock (Cyber Citadel) for yesterday’s TechTalk webinar titled “WEBINAR – MALICIOUS CYBER ACTIVITY AGAINST AUSTRALIAN NETWORKS” – RECORDING / PDF PRESENTATION (Summary video below) PENALTY UNITS – on 1 July 2020, the value of a penalty unit will increase from $210 to $222. The new penalty unit value will only apply to offences committed on or after 1 July 2020. BIOSECURITY COMPLIANCE – the Biosecurity Amendment (Traveller Declarations and Other Measures) Bill 2020 proposes to amend the Biosecurity Act 2015 (Biosecurity Act) with the aim of providing a flexible and proportionate compliance response through the targeted setting of amounts payable under an infringement notice. These changes are aimed at deterring non-compliance with the Biosecurity Act to mitigate against biosecurity risks. FTA welcomes members feedback for incorporation into our submission. Please provide your feedback to [email protected] by 1 July 2020.
